PRESS RELEASE – A Fallen Astronaut. An Engineered Rat. SCARS Shows Heroes Come In All Sizes.

01Publishing is proud to announce that J. Ishiro Finney, creator of Casefile: ARKHAM, World War Kaiju, and Utopiates has released his latest science fiction novella exclusively on Amazon.

INSPIRED by the author’s own battle with PSTD, J. Ishiro Finny takes us through a heartfelt journey in his latest novella, SCARS. A tale about a wounded warrior that falls somewhere between Harlan Ellison’s A BOY & HIS DOG and THE RATS OF NIHM set in a future that could be James A. Corey’s EXPANSE.

The story follows James Cleary, one of a small crew of astronauts who makes a living lassoing dead satellites out of Earth’s orbit. Then came the accident, the one which cost James everything. Now landlocked with no chance of returning to space, James lives in quiet desperation. By day, he struggles with having become an amputee. By night, he is haunted by nightmares of the moment that took his leg, his friends, and his entire career.

After a failed suicide attempt, fallen astronaut James Cleary is assigned a companion animal named Max—a genetically-engineered rat with an interesting past. Now, once again, James will find his life radically changed as old wounds are opened and fresh scars are forced to heal.

SCARS is a 49-page novella that blends strong character-driven storytelling with hard science fiction concepts.
